An elderly man wearing simple, worn clothing walked toward a private elevator inside an impressive office building. He needed to reach the top floor, but a security guard immediately stepped in front of him.
“Not this elevator,” the guard said, insisting that the man use the public elevators instead.
The older man calmly explained that he needed to go upstairs and warned the guard that he was making a mistake. Rather than checking his identity or asking why he was there, the guard continued blocking him.
“Then listen better,” the elderly man replied, asking the guard to step away.
Realizing the conversation was going nowhere, the man pulled out his phone and made a brief call.
Moments later, another man arrived from the elevator and immediately recognized him.
“Mr. Reed, finally,” he said before discovering what had happened.
When he learned that the security guard had stopped Mr. Reed, he revealed the unexpected truth: the elderly man was the owner of the building.
The guard suddenly realized his mistake and apologized, explaining that he had not known who Mr. Reed was.
