An older man wearing a faded jacket entered a luxury watch boutique and quietly approached one of the display cases.
As he examined a watch, a salesman quickly confronted him.
“Sir, please stop touching the display. Those watches are extremely expensive,” he said.
The man remained calm. “I only asked to see it.”
Instead of assisting him, the salesman looked at his clothing and assumed he couldn’t afford anything in the store. He suggested the man shop somewhere else and eventually threatened to call security.
The older customer simply asked to speak with the director.
Moments later, a female executive approached and immediately recognized him.
“Sir, you’re here! Your private reserve is ready,” she said respectfully.
The salesman stared in confusion and asked how she knew him.
Her answer changed everything.
“He owns this boutique and the company.”
The salesman was stunned. Realizing he had judged his own employer entirely by appearance, he quickly apologized.
“I’m sorry, sir. I made a mistake.”
The owner accepted his apology but offered an important reminder.
“You judged my clothes. Never judge someone’s worth by what they wear.”
Luxury may have a price, but respect should be offered freely to everyone who walks through the door.
