An elderly veteran sat quietly in a diner booth wearing an old military jacket decorated with medals from his years of service. As a waiter poured his coffee, he noticed the medals and began making dismissive comments about them.
The veteran explained that the medals meant something deeply personal to him, but the waiter continued joking, suggesting they looked like costume props.
“I never asked you to admire them,” the veteran calmly replied. “I asked you to respect them.”
Disappointed by the treatment, the veteran prepared to leave. But before he could walk away, a waitress approached and suddenly noticed one particular medal on his jacket.
Her expression changed immediately.
“Where did you get that?” she asked.
